History of a music video

A music video is a short film or video that accompanies a complete piece of music/song.
Modern music videos are mainly made and used as a marketing advice with the aim of promoting the artist and music recordings. Music videos gained popularity in the 1980s, when MTV (Music Television), and later VH1 (Video Hits One) showed music videos on television to a mass audience. Music videos are mainly split into three different categories: performance, narrative and concept

There is now a huge emphasis on music videos with artists seeing it as a huge part of interacting with fans and potraying an image to fans through the music videos; and they now have huge budgets to achieve this with below showing the average budgets of a music a video and the highest budgeted music video:
  • Average budget of a music video - $200,000-$500,000

  1. You have made a start in considering the ways in which music videos have changed and developed over the years, but you have only focused on the role of MTV and youtube. The points that you have made demonstrate some understanding, but you need to explore the role of the audience in more detail to demonstrate further knowledge and understanding.

Aim to include still images for the points that you have included, which will demonstrate your understanding further.
