Research into music channels- Miss Georgiou

MTV

The MTV's target audience is the youth aged from 12-24 years. MTV is a cable and satellite television channel that broadcasts popular music and promotional music videos. It was launched in 1981. . Young adults 12-34 name MTV as the most recognized network. MTV is the best way to connect with 12-34’s who are 91 million strong and growing, and represent 33% of the U.S. population. They look to MTV to find out about their world in their language, from their point of view. MTV plays up and coming popular music that features music stars of recent weeks. As the target audience is young and current, the music channel needs to play music that will be recognized by their audience. As young people nowadays have the ability to access new songs before their release date allowing them to have knowledge before the rest of the world. Therefore MTV needs to keep up to date with what they show in order to keep their audience interested and not allowing them look elsewhere for their music video fix.
Rhianna is featured on MTV on a regular basis, as she is very hip and modern. Rhianna is controversial which is interesting for a young audience; she is always pushing boundaries, which also excites an audience. Rhianna also wears shocking clothing and sometimes very little which sexualizes her, making her someone that girls admire and boys fancy.

Lady GAGA is also an artist that is frequently shown on MTV due to her eccentric personality and character. She also pushes the boundaries and receives very mixed reviews from audiences. Lady GAGA feels that any publicity and attention is good and that she is promoting herself by doing this.
Adele is also shown on MTV frequently because her songs allow escapism as they are very emotional and allow an audience to relate to the situation in which she is singing about. Her lyrics are very meaningful and describe situations that many young people find themselves in; also it makes a change from upbeat songs and gives the audience a more laidback viewing.MTV is branded and promoted by its sister channels of MTV base, MTV dance. These channels allow MTV to show all kinds of music videos therefore allowing them to be seen by a wider audience. The logo was seen on the JACKASS film therefore everyone who went to watch the film would have seen the logo. Throughout MTV’s early days the channel’s main logo it was a large and yellow ‘M’ with red letters but unlike other network logo’s, MTV’s logo was constantly changing as it adapted and morphed with different, colours, patterns and images. The bold colours would catch an audience’s eye especially a young audience as it connotes fun and happiness. The big ‘M’ shows a bulky and confident logo which gives the impression that MTV have a lot to offer as a music channel.

VH1

The target audience for VH1s aim was to focus on the lighter, softer side of popular music including such musicians as Olivia Newton- John,Kenny RogersCarly SimonTina TurnerElton JohnBilly JoelEric ClaptonStingDonna SummerRod StewartKenny G, and Anita Baker, in hopes of appealing to people aged 18 to 35, and possibly older. Also frequently featured in the networks early years were "videos" for Motown and other 1960s oldies consisting of newsreel and concert footage. It was introduced on January 1, 1985 with the video performance of  "The Star-Spangled banner"by Marvin GayeFrom the start, Video Hits One was branded as an urban version of its sister/parent channel. It played more jazz and R&B artists than MTV and had a higher rotation of urban-contemporary performers. The logo for VH1 appeals to the target audience as it very bold and colourful. The bright colours of yellow and pink connote a fun and happy atmosphere that will entice an audience when they are feeling dull on a day where the weather is dull.  The cube shape looks like a video game that is also fun. The logo shows the kind of expressive and up to date artists that they have on their music channel. Artists such as John Mayer, The Roots, Macklemore, Robin Thicke. These artists make chilled music with an exciting edge that will suit the expectations of the target audience of 18-35. However they do include artists such as Justin Timberlake and Neyo to show that they still associate themselves with current and famous musicians. The music channel is aimed to be watched by adults therefore they may have it on in the background when cleaning or socializing therefore their needs to be a chilled and happy ambience.

Kiss is known mainly as a radio station, which plays Hip-hop, dance, house, garage and R&B but is also a music channel which follows the conventions of the station in regards to genres promoted. Kiss has sister stations including: Kerrang Radio, The Hits, Heat, Smash Hits and Planet Rock all of which are well established. This station appeals to a large target audience of around 10-20+ Although manly aimed at teenagers and young adults kiss targets adults and their trust to therefore allow their children to listen to the station for example on the way to school in the car. Therefore, Kiss has a large number of audience members. This is useful when wanting to be the biggest radio station and music channel. They play many current artists such as Drake, Katy Perry and Jessie J. Their logo is a light blue which connotes a chilled and laidback atmosphere therefore this is aimed towards an audience who will enjoy to listen to this station to make them feel good about their day.

Kerrang is popular amongst people aged who enjoy music of the rock genre. The channel promotes many unknown Rock artists in addition to Rock classics. Kerrang plays old and modern rock from bands such as Metalica to My Chemical Romance. It has an aim to promote new rock artists and therefore create more listeners of less recognised bands. The logo for Kerrang appeals to their target audience as it is in the design of a typical heavy metal with the black background, a colour often associated with rock music due to the bands clothing. The capital letter suggest the music is loud and bold therefore it will not be background music and therefore for people who enjoy powerful music. Kerrang also have a magazine that will be aimed towards an audience who currently enjoy the music channel because it will feature news on bands that fall under the rock genre, interviews and upcoming music.

Planning setting and iconography.

Locations and iconography are important elements of a music video as it helps create a better atmosphere and helps show the fans the narrative and performance of the music video more clearly. The locations we are going to use will help us tell our narrative of our music video more clearly . The purpose of a setting is to make the lyrics relate to them as the target audience would be able to relate to what is happening in the music video to the lyrics, which covers Goodwins theory of a relationship between the lyrics and visuals. A setting can tell the audience why it is being used and it will allow the audience to understand what type of music video it is going to be for example whether it will be a performance, narrative or concept based music video. Iconography is used within a music video to also relate to what is going on with the scene and it can used to make the audience relate to what is going on in the music video, as they may have had a past experience. Both the iconography and setting can be used to make the music video seem more realistic and believable, they will then be able to relate to what is going on within the music video.

The setting that we have chose for our music video is London, street scene and a club scene. The purpose of the London scene is to make the audience understand that the boys are partying around big busy city and they are finding their feet. The street scene will also back up the idea that the two boys are lost and they are just trying to find their own way home, from the mess of the night before. The club scene will relate to the dance genre of the song as these types of songs have a dance and club scene within them as this would be conventional to the type of song we are using for our music video. Another setting we will use is in the forest where the boys have a car crash after their night out. The iconography that we will be using during our music video is alcohol, we will be using this as it relates to the club scene which relates to the conventions of the music dance genre. We are going to elaborate on the phones that are used as we want the label to be shown which is a point within Goodwins theory. We are also going to be using keys within the music video, as we want to show the differences between the home life of both boys.

The London scene that we will be using in the music video is going to used as it relates to the song of being lost blaming everything which has happened on the night before and it is conventional to the genre of the song we have choose as it allows the audience to understand that every story starts in a place that helps to tell the story. The setting helps to explain the lyrics also. The clubs scene relates to the dance genre as stereotypically dance music video has some element of dance or club within them, this will then relate to the audience as they would have been in a situation in which their has been dancing. The difference between the houses that will be used with the music video will back up the concept behind the music video. As we want to let people know that although everyone is equal in a club setting people are different when it comes to home life and this is one of the concepts in our music video. The keys iconography that we will be using also backs up the idea and a dance video stereotypically has a deeper concept than what people think. The alcohol that will used in the music video is stereotypical as it relates to the dance scenes, as when people want to dance they are under the influence of alcohol and this gives them a positive vibe in the club and on life.

The settings that we have used for our music video, the audience will be able to relate to as most of them would have been to London and they would understand how big it is and how easily people can live a parry lifestyle and get drunk up there. The audience would be able to build a relationship as they would understand that they have had a dangerous crash after their night out which the audience would feel closer to the artist as they are showing the dangers of what happens when drink driving. The club setting is a realistic setting and the age group we have targeted would have been put in this scene. This would then flow onto the alcohol as they would understand that people would be stereotypical drink alcohol when they are put in this kind of setting. The difference between the boys home life, people would be able to understand as everyone is having a good time in the club and everyone is together, but when they realise they have to come back to realisation they know that they live a different life to what they have been living in the club and the audience will be able to relate to this.

Planning Cinematography - Miss Georgiou

The purpose of Cinematography is to make sure that the audience engage with the music video and to make sure that the music video is understood through the camera shots that are used. The camera shots show what is going on in the music video tell the story behind the song and it relates to the lyrics which are being sung by the artist. It tells the audience whether the music video is based on performance, narrative or concept as the camera shots can identify this.

We are going to use a panning shot to set the scene for the music video. This is going to be over the river Thames and we will are going to focus on the famous land marks such as London eye and big Ben. This shot is conventional to the song that we are using in our scene as it relates to the boys partying around london and the audience will understand that London is a big place and will be familiar with it and will recognize all the places they are partying at. The audience would have experienced this party lifestyle aswell and we are going to use this in the music video to make the boys seem as if they do not know where they are but they're having a good time with alcohol. This shot will portray to the audience that the boys do not understand what has gone on in the night before and that they just want to go home after a night out, this is where they all get in the car and have a car accident, the car accident will be shot in a POV shot to make it more realistic and dramatic for the viewers. The audience would be able to build a relationship through the camera shot as they would be able to understand what the boys have gone through.

The second camera shot that we are going to use within our music video is going to be a low angle close up on the feet of the public who are walking to work. This is conventional as it relates to the night out that the boys had before and it relates to the alcohol as they do not understand what has happened the night before and how they ended up lost, and they have woke up in the morning after in a city where people are going to work which shows it is the morning. It protrays to the audience that the boys have ended up lost after a night out and they have work up when people are walking past going to work, it shows the difference between a party lifestyle and a working lifestyle. It builds a relationship as the audience would be able to understand the difference between a working and party lifestyle and that the boys are going to have to chose which route they want to go down.

The third camera shot we are going to use in the music video is going to be a close up on the can of beer, this will have the logo on the bottle. This is conventional as it alcohol is stereotypcially linked to a clubs and dance scene and therefore this will relate to the dance genre of the song. This camera shot will protray that the boys have been drinking alcohol all night and that they have managed to get them self lost while drunk in the city of London. The audience would be able to build a relationship as they will be able to understand that when people are really drunk they do not understand where they are going and they can easily get lost in a big city like London.

Another camera shot that I am going to be analysis is a mid-shot, of the boys sitting on the bench in London trying to understand what has gone on the night before. This is conventional people who live a party and dance lifestyle get drunk and they boys are trying to realise how they got to the bench. This portrays that the boys have had a night where they have had a few to many drinks and managed to get themselves lost. The target audience would be at the age where they would be able to understand how alcohol works and when people drink too much they do not understand what is going on. The audience would have experienced this as they are at the age where they would drink when they are listening to this kind of dance music.

My cinematography is conventional to my music genre because the editing goes from slow paced to high paced which you see a lot in dance music videos because the dancing always varies at one point. The dancing can be very lively and energetic but then can change suddenly to prolonged exaggerated dancing which involves the slow paced editing therefore, i believe the contrast from slow to fast paced editing works well for my music video. Also the high and low shots work well because sometimes the artists in dance videos are on stage therefore, the high shot shows they have got power and shows they are the main person in the video this is what the man in our music video we created is being portrayed as.It builds a relationship with the target audience because it reels the viewer in to what is going on. The shots that we have filmed are supposed to be dramatic and leave the viewer on the edge of their seats e.g. when the car crash happens we want to leave them wanting to know weather they died or survived. Also we want to create tension when the shots are being filmed as if it is actually happening this all builds a relationship with the audience and they will hopefully find the music video interesting and explaining the story that we have created or might find it totally boring and unconventional.

Magazine advert analysis- Miss Miller

The purpose of an magazine advert is to promote the artist to their target audience. It will make the audience want to see more of him and if the artists advert appeals to the target audience then will will want to buy more of his songs and albums. If the magazine advert appeals to the audience then they will also want to see him in his concert as they feel like they may have a connection with him, as the artist stereotypically stares at the audience to make it look like they are looking at the audience.

The first Magazine advert analysis i will be looking at will be Example. In this advert he is looking into the persons eyes who would be looking at this advert. He looks like he will want the person to attend his concert as he looks powerful and his face is on the cover much like Avicii. He has put a contrast of low key lightening and high key lightening on his face to make him look more effective and different to the other artists. The backgrounds are also different as the lighter side of his face has a black background and the other has a white background. I think he has used this to show that he has two different sides to him as a person and an artist. The connotation of this poster to get his target audience interested in these two different sides to him, they will want to also see where his concert will be and see if they can attend. He is looking into the audiences eyes as he wants to persuade them to go to his concert. The colours on his face make him look like he is a contrast in character, it shows he has two different sides to him and he wants the audience to be interested in this. He has gone for a black and white contrast as the background as he wants his name to stand out, also the new date he has added to his tour stands out as it is red. He wants the audience to see that he is having a tour and that the dates are visibly easy to see as they are in yellow. The design and layout of the poster is simple as he gets the message across to his target audience that he wants them to attend his concert by highlighting the dates and his name but then the black and white contrast makes the audience understand that he is a different to what people think he is.The image he uses makes him stand out and makes him look like he is not the artist that people know as he is showing that he has a dark side to him. This will make the audience know that there will be something new in this concert, that he has never done before. The typography that has been used on this poster has been to used to make sure that he stands out from the other dance style artists he makes people want to see him in concert. It is a strong and bold font that he has used for his poster which makes him stand out from the crowd and could mean that his concert is going to be bolt. The style of language that has been used in a way to demonstrate that he is bringing something new to dance, he is making a statement but telling people there is a different side to him that they have never seen before.

This advert promotes the music genre as through the font is shows that the artist is bolt and different as he has his own style, he is going against the media traditions. The contrast on the photo that has been used shows that there are different sides to the artist and the genre that he is, he is going to bring something new to dance genre songs and concerts. The artist is represented as being different and the poster shows that there are two different sides to him and maybe one that people have never seen before. The artist is represented as being different and bringing something new to the table as he is contrasted in two different lights. The advert will attract a target audience as they will want to see this different side to the artist, that they may have not seen before. The dates on the poster are highlighted in yellow which will make the audience of the poster want to read and see if he will be doing a concert near them.

My second mgazine advert analysis is Avicii. In this magazine advert the picture looks like he is strong and that he is a dominant artist. His image makes the audience have his attention in order to read on, he wants them to read on and he wants the audience to attend his concert. The connotation of an advert is to get the audience attention in order to make them attend his concert. He wants to get the audiences attention and make sure that he gets people to attend his concert. The black and white contrast of the the background makes the writing stand out more as he the colours are multi-coloured and makes the audience look at them before they look at anything else. The lay out of the magazine is plain and but effective as it gets the message across to the audience and makes them understand that he wants them to go and see him when he is gigging. The image that has been used is to show Avicii is staring at the audience and that will attract his target audience, he would hope that this will get their attention and make them want to know more about him, they would research his tour dates. The typography that has been used in the poster is different. He has used his logo that he puts on all of him branding, but the tour date is put in pink and green makes it stand out to the audience. It makes the tour date stand out and makes people look at that before they look at the date before anything else. The style of the font is the same of Aviciis logo he places on everything such as an album or cover. He does this to make him look different and makes me understand that he realises there is competition in his genre and music and he needs to stand out in order for him to from his target audience.

This advert promotes the music genre as the writing looks different and as artists are looking to be different they will try to anything to attract the target audience. The artist is rebelling against the media as the media stereotypically telling people to follow the music that is in the charts and this is normally pop music. The advert promotes the artists as it makes him look powerful and makes the audience understand that he is a good artist. It makes him look like he a force and that his music can have a positive effect on someone. The advert attracts the audience as the writing stands out and makes them interested in his concert. He realises that he needs to get their attention and he does this by using a black and white contrast and making the writing stand out to the audience.

This research will allow me to understand how to make a magazine advert and how to engage the audience and make them want to see more of the artist or song. It has demonstrated to me what different techniques can be used in order to make an audience read on and see what is available to them in their area. It will aid me when making my magazine advert as i will understand how to draw the audiences attention onto the poster and want them to read on. From this analysis, i have gained ideas such as the colours that are used and the font as they this can be conventional to our genre of music video that we have chosen. This analysis has allowed me to gain a deeper understanding into what mirco-elements i can include in my poster that can still stand out to the audience and allow them to relate to the dance genre music video.

Planning lighting and colour-Miss Georgiou

A variety of lightning styles and colours essential within a music video as it makes it more entertaining and adds greater effect to the music video, it also helps portray certain moods. Lights are extremely important in dance music videos with flashing lights and strobe lights commonly found. The lightning and colour we are going to use is dark background lighting with bright led lights and flashing lights over the top this is commonly found in dance videos and will attract ton our target audience as the look of the video will remind our audience of inside a club. Also we are going to use natural lighting for some shots so we can see our actors but most of the shots will be dark lighting as we are filming at night and in clubs. When we film in the club their is going to be the use of flashing lights and strobe lighting which helps create a euphoric mood for our audience. Our lighting is going to be conventional to a dance video as what we have found in research is their is a common use of flashing and strobe lights which we are going to use. Our target audience can not build a further relationship with our artist but instead will help them feel closer to the narrative as the lighting will give the music video a party feel which the audience can relate to, we are going to use fireworks for lighting this will be bright colours.

The lighting our group are going to use will help make our music video more enjoyable. Lighting is very good to use and lighting will help make our music video successful and will attract more viewers.  We have followed the conventional lighting we found in our research; when researching music videos from the dance genre we found that their is bright colours accompanied by flashing lights and LED lights there is low key lighting used throughout these videos swell- this lighting helps create a party feel within the music video. The use of colour also creates happiness, bright colour mirror the bright emotions created by the lively and upbeat music. Colour and lighting accompany the music to help it reach its full potential in satisfying the audience, the intense fast use of lighting and colours mirrors the pace of the music to appeal to the visual senses as well as hearing senses of the audience. This is conventional of a dance music video as the artist is often pictured performing in a stereotypical location of a club or festival, which is where the use of colour and lighting is the most evident. The atmosphere that is pictured in the video is mostly created by the use of lights and colour tints, this also encourages audiences who enjoy this rave location and setting to purchase the artist's tickets to familiarise themselves with the actual location and atmosphere witnessed in the music video.

Overall, the use of colour and lighting benefits the audiences experience as well as the artists representation. By incorporating the conventions of the dance genre in the lighting and colour categories, the audience get to see exactly what they want, this helps create a relationship between the audience and the artist as they believe that they are interested in the similar things, lighting and colour ultimately makes the video as interesting and entertaining as possible throughout the club settings and artist performance.

Planning music video Lyric analysis - Miss Georgiou

Slow editing for the beginning of the lyrics as this is slow tempo. The lyrics are emotional so our narrative will be about an argument or something emotional to match these lyrics. 'Guilt is burning inside I'm hurting' these lyrics show the singer is emotional so we could have two people arguing and then after having someone upset and emotional. There is the constant use of the word 'sorry', this shows the song is emotional and we are going to use a man being regretful and going on a journey as this narrative will match the emotion of the lyrics. My group printed off the lyrics and then studied what the lyrics meant and came up with ideas of what to use for our narrative, we highlighted main words and discussed what narrative would go well with this. Our annotations will help us plan our micro elements as we can know what kind of feeling the song wants to create, and because we knew we wanted two people arguing we decided to use normal costume and have the location first in a house and then following the man in a car while he's going on a journey as he's feeling 'guilty' and 'sorry'.

The target audience for our music video will be teenagers and they can relate to this video as the narrative of arguing will be familiar to our target audience. The conventions I am going to use are slow editing and fast editing, at first there is slow tempo to the lyrics with the song being very emotional, this will be matched with slow editing and when the tempo of the song goes quicker during the middle we are going to use fast editing. The fast pace of the editing goes against the emotional lyrics. Our lyrics have no hidden meanings as it is clear to see the lyrics are emotional with words like guilt and sorry and don't blame it on me keep being repeated through out the song. The lyrics 'Can't be sleeping' shows the artist is so stressed he can't sleep- we will show this in our music video with him being stressed. We are going to start the video off with a boy and girl arguing in a house then the boy will storm out angrily and head to his car. The camera will be on top of the car and follow where he is driving, the boy will keep driving showing he is lost in his heart and feels sorry and guilty.  We followed the Goodwin theory the Goodwin theory is where there is a succinct relationship between music and visuals our music video will match the emotion and tempo of our lyrics, which is emotional and slow paced. The lyrics are below and you can see there is a constant use of emotional words.

Can't be sleeping,
Keep on waking
Without the woman next to me
Guilt is burning
Inside I'm hurting
This ain't a feeling I can keep
So, blame it on the night
Don't blame it on me
Don't blame it on me
Blame it on the night
Don't blame it on me
Don't blame it on me

Blame it on the night
Don't blame it on me
Don't blame it on me
So, blame it on the night
Don't blame it on me
Don't blame it on me
Don't blame it on me

[Instrumental]

Can't you see it, I was manipulated
I had to let her through the door
I had no choice in this
I was the friend she missed,
She needed me to talk

So, blame it on the night
Don't blame it on me
Don't blame it on me
So, blame it on the night
Don't blame it on me
Don't blame it on me

Blame it on the night
Don't blame it on me
Don't blame it on me
So, blame it on the night
Don't blame it on me
Don't blame it on me
Don't blame it on me

Oh I'm so sorry, so sorry baby
(I'll be better this time)
I will be better this time

I got to say
I'm so sorry
Oh I promise
(I'll be better this time
I'll be better this time)

Don't blame it on me!
Don't blame it on me!

Research into chosen music artist- Miss Georgiou

My group decided to use Calvin Harris for our music artist as he is a hugely successful artist and my group are all fans of him. To make our music video we wanted to use an artist who we both enjoy as this would help making our music video more enjoyable. Calvin Harris is a DJ and songwriter and he owns the vanity label Fly Eye Records. Harris signed contracts with Three Six Zero Group (management), EMI (publishing) and Sony BMG (recording) in 2006 after he had been discovered on the social networking website Myspace and his music was released on Sunshine's label Xylophone Jones Recordings previous to his album on Sony BMG, from this moment Calvin Harris has been extremely successfull with the release of high selling singles and hits continuously for the previous 8 years. Harris holds the record for the most top ten hits from one studio album on the UK Singles Chart with nine hits and was the highest paid DJ in 2013 and 2014, which shows how successfull he is

Below is a table showing Calvin Harris' studio album releases and we can see he is hugely successful, which is another reason why our group chose to use him as our artist.

As part of my research into my chosen artist i analysed two of Calvin Harris' music videos. The first music video is 'Blame' by Calvin Harris Feat John Newman, my main reason for getting inspiration from this music video was because I am using this song for my own music video so I wanted to see what shots and editing they used for the pace of song, this research was vital as I will use the fast editing used in this music video to match the fast tempo of the song. However the music video is not all fast editing as parts of the song, which are slow paced are matched with slow editing, which I will take on board and add to my own music video. This fast editing is conventional for electronic/dance music as always the video matches the fast pace of the song, this is to create euphoria for the audience and make them want to dance. Bright flashing lights and smoke are also used in this video, which are also conventional to the electronic/dance music genre this helps create a party scene and adds to the effect of fast editing, this also makes the video look more appealing to the audience. I found these two conventions are commonly found in this type of music genre so I will use this inspiration and include these conventions into my own music video to make it appealing to my audience.

In this video their are various wide shots showing people partying this is found in many videos from this music genre and can help create a party atmosphere this song is trying to create. The artist representation in this music video shows them to have a party lifestyle and with loads of girls dancing sexually this gives the audience an image that Calvin Harris lifestyle is full of girls and partying and even though throughout the video we can not see Calvin Harris he makes a cameo appearance in the video in a shot showing him with all girls, this is to further produce an image of this is what Calvin Harris' lifestyle is like. Through Mise-en-scene we can see the girls around Calvin Harris and throughout the music video are wearing hardly anything and look very sexual this is also commonly found in dance music videos with girls dancing around sexually, the location is set in a club and this is to promote Calvin Harris' party lifestyle. The target audience for this video is 16-30 as the contents is full of partying and this is what this age range is interseted in. The style of the music video is narrative and performance with the narrative showing a man and girl arguing but the performance being people dancing in a club. Goodwin's theory can clearly be seen in this music video The first part of Goodwins theory that is covered in the music video is that it demonstrates genre characteristics, this is evident in the music video when we see dance scenes in clubs and flashing lights as these are typical characteristics of dance music videos.. A relationship between visuals and lyrics is the second point of Goodwins theory that is covered, this can be seen when he says 'Guilt im burning inside im hurting' and we can see John Newman sitting on the edge of the bed with his head in his hands looking stressed and sad. The fourth point that Goodwin expects to be covered within a music video, the demand of label will makes the artists label, this is shown when we constantly see close up shots of calvin harris, this is to make the music video more entertaining for the fans.

My second video I analysed for my research into Calvin Harris was 'Summer'  The target audience for this video is 16-30 as the contents is full of cars, partying and girls and this is what this age range is interseted in. The style of the music video is narrative with car racing occuring in the music. Goodwin's theory can clearly be seen in this music video The first part of Goodwins theory that is covered in the music video is that it demonstrates genre characteristics, this is evident in the music video when we see girls dressed sexually and fast racee cars. A relationship between visuals and lyrics is the second point of Goodwins theory that is covered, this can be seen when hes sing about 'Last Summer' and the video is set at summer time with all fun things such as car racing and partying happening. The fourth point that Goodwin expects to be covered within a music video, the demand of label will makes the artists label, this is shown when we constantly shots of calvin harris this is to make the music video more entertaining for the fans in this music video it is all about Calvin Harris as he appears throughout the video, this helps create a stronger relationship between the artist and fans. The artist is represented in having a party and reckless life style with him being seen with underdresseed woen and driving fast cars, which most of his target audience want to be like. The Mise-en-scene used helps create the image for Calvin Harris, by using racing cars it shows fans Calvin Harris is reckless and rich to afford these cars, the location of in a mansion also helps show he is rich. The clothing the girls are wearing is minimum with the dressed very provactively, this is to promote Calvin Harris and shows his lifestyle to be full of girls.

Overrall my research into my music artist has helped me with planning my own music video as it has shown me how artists are represented through a music video and what kind of image they want their fans to see. I have found that Calvin Harris often uses narrative and includes part of performance in his music video, which my group are going to use the same style as well. We do not have a budget like these music videos have to go and film in a mansion and get fast girls
